The publication of the August 2018 edition of Fire Cover, No 221, has been slightly delayed. Details of the causes of this delay will be given in the Editor's Footnote in 221.

This edition is now in the proofing stage and will shortly be printed and distributed.

We thank members for their patience in this matter and hope that when Fire Cover 221 arrives it provides interesting content.

FBS WEST MIDLANDS – Cancellation of Staffordshire Visit on Saturday 8th September 2018

Unfortunately, and with much regret, we have to announce that there is no alternative other than to cancel the forthcoming Staffordshire Visit on Saturday 8th September 2018, due to factors beyond our control.

Despite having a plan A, B and C, unfortunately not enough locations have confirmed their availability to make the day viable, which we understand will come as a disappointment.

We are sorry for the short notice, but we wanted to give the host organisations as much time as possible in the hope that we could pull something together. Unfortunately this hasn’t been the case and we would like to offer our apologies for any disappointment.

If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch.

Richard Hickman, FBS West Midlands Administrator

Hereford and Worcester Visit 07th July 2018

Many thanks to the cohort of members, from a variety of FBS Regions, who descended on the City of Worcester's new, well equipped station before heading out into the delightful surrounding countryside.
Next was a private collection of preserved airport crash tenders, along with a ubiquitous Green Goddess. These were followed by the fire stations at Pershore, the new fire station at Evesham and then Stourport, Bewdley and Kidderminster before culminating with the NFS / AFS Group and their period appliances.
We extend our grateful appreciation to Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, along with everyone we met on the day.
A full report will appear in a future Fire Cover.

Ebay Find Sparks Fire Station Aniversary Celebrations
The chance discovery of an old document on ebay has sparked 65th anniversary celebrations for a Shropshire fire station.
A member of The Fire Brigade Society had found the original programme for the opening of Wellington Fire Station in 1953 on the internet auction site.
