FIRE COVER 222 IS ON ITS WAY!

Fire Cover 222 has been delivered from our printers and has been distributed.

It should start dropping on doormats shortly, according to location.

This Fire Cover should arrive with inserts, namely the 2018-2019 AGM Agenda and 2017-2018 Society Accounts, a document containing the 2017-18 Annual Report, progress on 2018-2019 Society Operational Plan and the proposed 2019-2020 Society Operational Plan, and another document containing 'The President's Message' and voting form.

We ask that members read the inserts and above all register their vote by the due date.

Non-arrival of Fire Cover, or the inserts, should be reported to me via 'Membership Secretary',

whose contact details appear in Fire Cover 221 on page 1.

Richard Williams,

FBS Distribution Manager (and Membership Secretary).

2018-2019 Annual General Meeting

The 2018-2019 AGM will take place at 14.00h on Saturday 23rd February 2019 at the National Emergency Services Museum, West Bar, Sheffield, S3 8PT.

There will be a comprehensive supporting programme for the weekend, subject to final confirmation. The Museum will be open from 10.00 hours until 17.00 hours, and a guided tour will take place before the AGM itself. A hot buffet will be provided for members attending whilst tea, coffee, etc., will be available throughout the day. There will be guest speakers from the Museum staff, and possibly others.

On Sunday 24th February 2019, we will be visiting one of the Museum’s reserve exhibit stores in the area which is not open to the public, where there should be 20 plus machines, the vast majority of which will be moveable for photography. It is hoped that additional privately preserved and in-service machines will also attend. The programme will conclude mid-afternoon, to allow a timely return home that evening.

There will be a cost to each day. However; those wishing to only attend the AGM itself will be welcomed.

Full details for all those wishing to attend the AGM events will be available from the Events Manager in the New Year, by e-mailing, or writing to, the address on page 1 of Fire Cover. Please include an A5 stamped and addressed envelope if writing. Closing date for confirming your attendance will be Monday 11th February 2019.

We look forward to seeing you there.

FBS Scotland Visit

A change of date recently saw 15 members from FBS Scotland, joined by a member from FBS Yorkshire & The Humber, visit the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service West SDA area.

Members visited; Cumbernaul; Easterhouse; Clydesmill; Polmade; Springburn; Cowcaddens and Maryhill. Despite some initial grey skies the weather did improve in the afternoon and with the assistance of the crews some great photographs were obtained by the members present. A varying selection of appliances and bodywork was seen and it was good to see more than just battenburg Scania pumps.

Thanks are expressed to D.A.C.O Heath for allowing the visit and to the members who attended and saw so many vehicles.

Hereford and Worcester Visit 07th July 2018

Many thanks to the cohort of members, from a variety of FBS Regions, who descended on the City of Worcester's new, well equipped station before heading out into the delightful surrounding countryside.
Next was a private collection of preserved airport crash tenders, along with a ubiquitous Green Goddess. These were followed by the fire stations at Pershore, the new fire station at Evesham and then Stourport, Bewdley and Kidderminster before culminating with the NFS / AFS Group and their period appliances.
We extend our grateful appreciation to Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, along with everyone we met on the day.
A full report will appear in a future Fire Cover.

Ebay Find Sparks Fire Station Aniversary Celebrations
The chance discovery of an old document on ebay has sparked 65th anniversary celebrations for a Shropshire fire station.
A member of The Fire Brigade Society had found the original programme for the opening of Wellington Fire Station in 1953 on the internet auction site.
